COLLECTIVE JOY FARM, Nourish & Grow Education Program

Collective Joy Farm, a local urban farm rooted in sustainability, launced an educational initiative tailored for non-profit organizations. This program aims to empower these organizations by teaching them how to cultivate microgreens, providing fresh produce for their communities. The program includes comprehensive microgreen education, strategic planning assistance, an interactive hands-on workshop, and ongoing support with follow-up materials to ensure success beyond the initial training.

Design Thinking and the Nourish and Grow Program

IDENTIFYING THE CHALLENGE

Empathy based research and interviews revealed two key challenges in developing this project:

(1) many people are unfamiliar with microgreens and how to incorporate them into their daily lives, and (2) there is a need for post-workshop support to ensure the long-term success of these microgreen farms.

DEFINING THE LEARNING OBJECTIVES AND OUTCOMES

Defining the learning outcomes and objectives for our learning challenge laid the foundation for developing the program’s structure. By incorporating additional tools, such as learning journey mapping and identifying magical and miserable moments, we were able to refine further and enhance the program's initial framework, ensuring a more targeted and impactful learning experience.

REFINING THE JOURNEY

Next, we leveraged all of our research to refine the learning journey through an iterative process, gathering ongoing feedback from key stakeholders. We then developed prototypes that aligned with the existing branding and crafted copy specifically tailored to our learning personas, creating a unified experience that resonated with our audience.

INCORPORATING FEEDBACK

Once the alpha prototype was developed, it was reviewed with key stakeholders, and their feedback was integrated into the design. The revised prototype was then tested with a non-profit organization, with qualitative and quantitative surveys conducted at various stages of the journey.

A key takeaway was discovering the most effective way to share the introductory videos. Our initial test with a non-profit organization revealed the importance of providing participants with greater flexibility in when and how they access the microlearning videos, ensuring a more adaptable and user-friendly experience.
